Chocolate Margarita

Most people have a certain type of drink that they gravitate to -- for me it's margaritas. I love all flavors of margarita and I really like experimenting with out of the box flavor pairings. When I saw this chocolate margarita on Pinterest, I was in love.

Thanks so much to Kayla for the beautiful pictures of this one, check out her blog.

Recipe adapted from Sweet Life.

Ingredients:
For Chocolate Syrup
-¾ cup sugar
-½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-½ cup water
-Pinch of salt
-1 tsp vanilla extract

For Margarita
-½ cup chocolate syrup
-¾ cup tequila
-¼ cup heavy cream
-1/3 cup Triple Sec
-1/2 cup creme de cocoa
-1 tsp ground cinnamon
-Shaved chocolate for the rim
-2 tablespoons chocolate syrup for rim
-Chocolate for garnish

I made the chocolate syrup a day ahead of time. Whisk all ingredients together (except the vanilla) in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and allow the syrup to boil for 4-5 minutes, the mixture should thicken. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.

To make the margarita in a shaker (we made individuals, if you're making a big batch, use a pitcher) of ice mix the creme de cocoa, tequila, triple sec, chocolate syrup, heavy cream and cinnamon.

Rim the glasses with chocolate syrup and dip in the chocolate flakes.

Enjoy!

My friends thought this drink was too strong, but I thought it was delicious! I really enjoyed the smooth chocolate taste paired with the tequila. This is the kind of drink that I would make again.

Stoplight Margaritas

I found this idea on Pinterest, and according to the Disney Food Blog where I saw this, the Stoplight Margarita is actually from Disney World. The original is made with strawberry, mango and melon. We made ours with lime instead of melon. I've never been to Disney so I'm not sure how our version stacks up to the original, but margaritas are always enjoyable as far as I'm concerned.  The trick to these is to make sure that they're really slushy so that the different flavors layer and don't mix.

Ingredients:
-Strawberry or Wildberry Margarita Mix
-Mango Margarita Mix
-Lime Margarita Mix
-Tequila
-Lots of Ice
-Sugar for the rim if desired

Mix each layer one by one, rinsing out the blender between colors: Lime first, then mango, then strawberry or wildberry. You want to use a lot of ice, the ice drink should be slushy so that the layers stack rather than mix. The first time we made this recipe the margaritas weren't mixed with enough ice and the layers blended together, the second time it turned out great.

Enjoy!

The good thing about this margarita is that you can make it as strong or as weak as you would like to. Some of our margarita mixes came with tequila already mixed in, others like the lime flavor needed tequila added. The drink we made wasn't too strong, the flavors went really well together. This is something that I would make again for a party, because of the nice presentation.

Blood Orange Margaritas

Happy Cinco de Mayo! This blood orange margarita recipe comes from uTry it. If you're looking for great way to spice up your margaritas today, look no further.

Other Blood Orange Recipes: Blood Orange Tequila Drink with Lime.

Ingredients:
Makes 2
-2 limes, juiced
-1 tablespoon flaky sea salt (for the rim)
-1 to 2 tablespoons agave nectar (depending on the sweetness form your oranges and your preference)
-3/4 cup freshly squeezed blood orange juice
-4 ounces tequila
-Lots of ice

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and crush the ice until the drink is slushy. Rim the glasses with coarse salt and pour the drink into margarita glasses.

Garnish with an orange wedge.

Enjoy!

This drink was great, the blood oranges added a nice twist to the margarita since it's not a typical flavor that you would see served in a restaurant. I like my margaritas a little tart so I didn't add extra agave syrup, but you could easily add if for extra sweetness.

Mike-a-Rita

Ingredients:-4 shots of Margarita Mix
-1 shot of Tequila
-¼ cup sugar
-1 Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade

Rim a margarita glass with sugar.

Mix the tequila and the margarita mix.

Pour the tequila/margarita mix into a glass.
Open a pink Mike's Hard and quickly turn it over into the glass so that the opening of the bottle is against the bottom of the glass.
Enjoy!
It's homecoming at my college this weekend so I needed to put together a fun cocktail because my roommate was back in town. The ingredients were simple and this couldn't have been easier to make. Make sure to tip the Mike's Hard into the margarita quickly so that the drink doesn't overflow...also make sure to fill the margarita glass half-way so that the Mike's Hard doesn't make the drink overflow.

Happy weekend!

Watermelon Frozen Margarita

Ingredients:

-ice
-4 oz. margarita mix
-2 oz. tequila
-1 cup seeded watermelon

This recipe comes from the Magic Bullet 10 second Recipes Book. I use a Magic Bullet for easy one drink portions, but this recipe can easily be doubled or tripled in a blender for a larger batch.

Add watermelon and ice.

Add in margarita mix and tequila.

Blend until smooth and then serve.
This was a really great margarita recipe! I could hardly taste the tequila and the watermelon made for a nice frothy drink -- great for summer!
